Mazda set to build its last car in the U.S.

Little Mazda Motors has long been known for doing things its own way, sticking with the rotary engine, for one thing, decades after other manufacturers gave up on the fuel-inefficient technology.? And the step the maker is expected to take today again runs counter to general industry trends.? But it leaves many industry observers wondering whether it will leave the Japanese maker at a serious competitive disadvantage.

Sometime today, the very last Mazda6 sedan will roll off the AutoAlliance International assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan.? Mazda has been building cars at the facility in suburban Detroit for the last quarter century, having set up AAI as a joint venture with long-time partner Ford Motor Co.?

But Ford has all but completely walked away from that trans-Pacific partnership, selling off all but a small stake in Mazda in recent years and ending decades of product sharing programs.? Mazda, in turn, has been looking for a new partner and, with sales of the Mazda6 on the decline, it decided to walk away from the assembly plant joint venture ? turning to a factory in Japan for the soon-to-be-updated Mazda6 model.

?The AutoAlliance plant will remain open ? but now, solely under Ford?s control.? In fact, the maker has big plans for the facility and will invest $550 million in it while adding 1,200 jobs to the 1,700 workers already there.

Mazda actually will retain its 50% stake, but has no plans to build anything there going forward.

Flat Rock actually began as a Ford casting plant in 1972, was closed nine years later and then purchased by Mazda, which followed Honda and Toyota, among other Japanese makers opening so-called transplant assembly plants in the U.S.? The Japanese company initially turned to its own staff for much of the factory?s management team ? even building one of Detroit?s first sushi bars nearby.

As Mazda?s finances faltered, Ford rapidly expanded its stake in the Hiroshima-based manufacturer ? ultimately naming its own CEO to run the Japanese company.? Ford also purchased a stake in the facility.

AutoAlliance has produced a wide range of products over the years, especially from the Ford perspective, including the little sporty Probe coupe and later the Mustang.? Mazda has long focused on midsize models, known for a number of years as the Mazda6.

The problem, Mazda officials have explained, is that volumes have slipped so precipitously that it is no longer economically viable to continue at the plant ? even though the next-generation Mazda6 coming next year will be hampered by lopsided exchange rates that have led most other Japanese manufacturers to rapidly shift production away from the home islands.?

Japan?s Big Three, Toyota, Nissan and Honda, in fact, have announced significant expansion plans for North America in recent months.

And Honda, the first Japanese maker to open a transplant factory, is marking the 30^th anniversary of its Marysville, Ohio assembly plant this month by launching production of its 9^th-generation Accord.? By mid-decade, announced John Mendel, the maker?s top American executive, about 85% of the vehicles the maker sells in North America will be built here.

Mazda isn?t retrenching entirely.? It plans to set up a new factory in Salamanca, Mexico to build smaller products like the Mazda2 and Mazda3, but unless it reverses its stand on Flat Rock it appears unlikely it will build vehicles in the U.S. for the foreseeable future.

In a time where Windows hardly connected to the Internet, PC games hardly performed at all.? They crashed, glitched, ran poorly and hardly entertained when they ran well.? Even games such as Myst or Microcosm (cult classics) barely accomplished more than persuading you to visit an arcade.? Nonetheless, nobody anticipated the day thatChessmaster broke the trend.? Almost everybody remembers playing?or hearing about?Chessmaster.

For those of you who don?t know what Chessmaster is, dig deep into your memory.? Chessmaster is that one child that always ran faster than you in tag.? Chessmaster is the 300 lb gorilla that plows through your defensive line in ?red rover.?? Every undefeated champion of child?s play shares the same terrific presence as Chessmaster.? You cannot beat the Chessmaster, you cannot win a single, solitary game when it is involved.

To everyone?s much lesser suprise, Chessmaster is back in a big, bad way with Thinking Machine 4.? Now, Thinking Machine 4 visually maps every possible combination of moves that you can make in advance, and then decides which tactic is best based on final outcome.

The redeemed?Thinking Machine 4 looks pretty nice.? The table ripples as if the pieces are buoys on a chess tub.? The shape-designated pieces can be slightly confusing at first, but their simple design definitely promotes the clarity of the game.? Whenever you make a move,?Thinking Machine 4 visually maps out all possible move combinations.? Thin orange and cyan wires erupt across the board, and the stream of possible outcomes springs to life.

Unlike the original Chessmaster, this version only takes 5-15 seconds to react.? I distinctly remember eating lunch while the original Chessmaster mulled over its next move.? It was horrifyingly slow and overtly intimidating.? Thankfully, the terror aspect of Chessmaster is long since gone.? Nonetheless, you are guaranteed an equally challenging and agitating round of impossible chess.

I challenge you to defeat it.

Kalyn's Kitchen: Recipe for Zucchini-Crust Vegetarian Pizza ...

This seems to be the summer for pizza crust experiments at Chez Kalyn, and this recipe for Vegetarian Zucchini-Crust Pizza Margherita was inspired by the Cauliflower-Crust Vegetarian Pizza I made last month.? After trying that pizza with a crust made of cooked cauliflower, cheese, almond meal, and an egg, I started wondering why you couldn't make a similar type of crust with zucchini.? Jake was skeptical, and it did take us two tries to get a crust we were happy with, but we both loved the way the zucchini added flavor to this crust and really complemented the simple tomato sauce, fresh basil, and fresh Mozzarella that are the traditional toppings for Pizza Margherita.? This is a pizza recipe that's not only vegetarian, but also gluten-free and low carb and it's another answer to that zucchini problem that so many people have this time of year.
We cooked this crust on a pizza stone on the grill (just like we did the Cauliflower-Crust Vegetarian Pizza), but I'm sure you can also cook it in a hot oven, with or without a pizza stone.? Even if you don't have a garden, try not to skip the fresh basil on top, because that adds a lot of flavor to the pizza.? This pizza is so delicious that no one will care that there's no meat, and I think this is a perfect Meatless Monday dinner.? Use a food processor, or the large sides of a hand grater to grate the zucchini.

Then put the zucchini into the food processor with the steel blade, and chop it more finely.? (If you don't have a food processor, use a large chef knife for this second chopping.

Once the zucchini has been grated and then chopped, you need 4 cups to make the two small pizzas in this recipe.

Put the zucchini in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 5 minutes on high. Then put a piece of cheesecloth or a kitchen towel inside a colander and let the zucchini drain while it cools.

While the zucchini cools, make the sauce.? Start by draining a can of good-quality petite-diced tomatoes.

Saute the garlic in half the olive oil, just until it's fragrant.

Then add the drained tomatoes and Italian seasoning and let the sauce cook down over low heat.? (Just before using the sauce, stir in the rest of the olive oil and season to taste with salt and pepper.)

When it's cool enough to handle, use your hands to squeeze as much water as you can out of the zucchini.

Mix the cooked zucchini, grated Mozzarella blend, almond meal, Parmesan, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and egg to make the crust mixture.

Spray a baking sheet with olive oil or nonstick spray and divide the crust into two balls.

Then use your fingers to press the mixture out into two crusts, taking care not to make the edges too thin.

Cook the crust on a pizza stone on a grill (or in an oven) that's been preheated to 450F/230C. Here's how the crust looked when it came off the grill. Top each pizza with half the sauce, fresh basil leaves, and chunks of fresh mozzarella. Let the pizza cook a few minutes longer, just until the cheese has melted nicely.? Serve hot. Zucchini-Crust Vegetarian Pizza Margherita (on the grill or in the oven)
(Makes 2-4 servings, depending on what you serve with it.)

Crust Ingredients:
4 cups grated then chopped fresh zucchini (one large zucchini about a foot long, or several smaller ones)
1/2 cup finely grated low-fat Mozzarella blend
5 T almond meal
3 T finely grated Parmesan
1 tsp. dried Greek or Turkish oregano
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
pinch of salt
1 egg, beaten

Sauce Ingredients:
1 can (14.5 oz.) good quality petite diced tomatoes, drained
1 T olive oil, divided
2 large garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
salt and pepper to taste

Pizza Toppings:
3 oz. part-skim fresh Mozzarella, sliced and then pulled apart into chunks
10-15 large fresh basil leaves

Instructions:

Preheat the grill or oven to 450F/230C.

Grate zucchini, using a food processor or the large side of a hand grater, then chop the grated zucchini.? (I did this with a steel blade in the food processor, but you could chop with a large knife if you don't have a food processor.)? Place the chopped zucchini in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for about 5 minutes.? Then drain the cooked zucchini into a colander that's lined with cheesecloth or a kitchen towel.? Let zucchini drain until it's cool enough to handle.

While the zucchini cools, make the tomato sauce.? First, drain the tomatoes into a colander placed in the sink.? While the tomatoes drain, chop the garlic, heat half the olive oil in a very small frying pan, and saute garlic just until it's fragrant.? Add the drained tomatoes and Italian seasoning and let the sauce simmer on very low heat until the crust is done.? (Just before using the sauce, stir in the rest of the olive oil and season to taste with salt and pepper.)

When zucchini is cool, squeeze out as much water as you can and place the zucchini in a bowl.? Add the finely grated Mozzarella, almond meal, Parmesan, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and beaten egg and stir until the ingredients are combined.

Spray a baking sheet with olive oil or nonstick spray and divide the crust mixture into two balls.? Use your fingers to press out the crust mixture into two circles, being careful not to make the edges too thin (or they will burn).? Bake crust on a pizza stone (on a covered grill or in the oven) just until the crust is firm and starting to brown (about 12-13 minutes.)? You can also bake this in the oven without a pizza stone, but it will take a little longer to cook.

Spread each small pizza with half the sauce, then top with half the basil leaves and half the fresh Mozzarella chunks.? Put pizzas back into the oven or on the grill and cook just until the cheese is nicely melted, about 3-5 minutes more.? Serve hot.

This pizza would be approved for all phases of the South Beach Diet.? It does contain some nutrient-dense foods like tomatoes and almonds, but the crust is relatively high in fat, so use portion control.? It's also important to use low-fat Mozzarella for the crust and part-skim fresh mozzarella to top the pizza if you're making it for South Beach eating.?

I chose the South Beach Diet to manage my weight partly so I wouldn't have to count calories, carbs, points, or fat grams, but if you want nutritional information for a recipe, I recommend entering the recipe into Calorie Count, which will calculate it for you.?

Insurer Aetna to buy Coventry Health for $5.6B

Insurer Aetna Inc said it will buy rival Coventry Health Care Inc for $5.6 billion in cash and stock to boost its share of government business and benefit from U.S. healthcare reforms.

The U.S. healthcare reform aims to provide coverage for 16 million more Americans through privately run health insurance exchanges in each state, and will expand Medicaid eligibility for an additional 16 million people by raising limits on household income.

The acquisition of Coventry will help Aetna lift its share of revenue from its government business to over 30 percent from 23 percent.

It will help Aetna add nearly 4 million medical members and 1.5 million Medicare Part D members. Medicare Part D is a federal program that reduces prescription drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries.

"Integrating Coventry into Aetna will complement our strategy to expand our core insurance business, increase our presence in the fast-growing government sector and expand our relationships with providers in local geographies," Aetna's CEO Mark Bertolini said in a statement.

Aetna will pay $27.30 in cash and 0.3885 shares for each Coventry share held, a total value of $42.08 per share, Coventry and Aetna said in a joint statement.

The deal is at a 20.4 percent premium to Coventry's Friday closing stock price of $34.94.

Shares of Coventry rose above the offer price, gaining 21 percent to $42.15 in premarket trade on Monday.

Including the assumption of Coventry debt, the sale is valued at $7.3 billion, the companies said.

Aetna said it expects to finance the cash portion of the transaction with a combination of cash on hand and by issuing about $2.5 billion of new debt and commercial paper.

The deal is expected to add modestly to Aetna's operating earnings per share in 2013, 45 cents in 2014 and 90 cents in 2015.

In July, health insurer WellPoint Inc said it would buy rival Amerigroup Corp for $4.46 billion, nearly doubling its Medicaid business.

Last October, Cigna Corp agreed to buy HealthSpring Inc for $3.8 billion to strengthen its Medicare business.

Activists get 2 years for anti-Putin church stunt

MOSCOW ? Three punk rock-style activists who briefly took over a cathedral in a raucous prayer for deliverance from Vladimir Putin were sentenced to two years in prison for hooliganism on Friday, a decision that drew protests around the world as it highlighted the Russian president?s intensifying crackdown on dissent.

Protesters from Moscow to New York and musicians including Madonna and Paul McCartney condemned the prosecution of the three women, members of a band called Pussy Riot. Several countries, including the U.S., and even some Kremlin loyalists decried the verdict.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alekhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, were arrested in March after performing a ?punk prayer? in Christ the Savior Cathedral, dancing and high-kicking as they called on the Virgin Mary to save Russia from Putin, who was elected to a third term as Russia?s president two weeks later.

Judge Marina Syrova ruled Friday that the band members had ?committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred.? She rejected the women?s arguments that they were protesting the Russian Orthodox Church?s support for Putin and didn?t intend to offend religious believers.

Putin himself had said the band members shouldn?t be judged too harshly, creating expectations that they could be sentenced to time served and freed in the courtroom. This, however, would have left the impression that Putin had bowed to public pressure, something he has resisted throughout his 12 years in power.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin couldn?t intervene in the judicial process and refused to comment on the sentence.

When the sentence was announced, shouts of ?down with the police state? rose from a crowd of hundreds of Pussy Riot supporters outside the courtroom. More than 50 people were detained, including former world chess champion Garry Kasparov, who said police beat him.

Protesters donned the colorful balaclavas that have become a symbol of the band among protestors, though no single protest outside Moscow drew more than a few hundred people.

In Kiev, Ukraine, four women, one of whom was topless, used a chainsaw to cut down a cross. About 40 protesters gathered in New York held up banners that read: ?We are all hooligans.?

The crowd in Moscow included many of the prominent writers, journalists and opposition partisans who spearheaded the mass protests that shook the city over the winter and spring. Pussy Riot was an obscure band of activists for much of that time, and some fellow opponents of Putin disapproved of their tactics, but they rallied to the group?s defense after the March arrests.

For three hours as the judge read the verdict, the defendants stood in handcuffs in a glass cage in the courtroom, the same one where oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, another Putin opponent, was convicted two years ago.

The three women smiled sadly as the judge recounted testimony of prosecution witnesses accusing them of sacrilege and ?devilish dances? in the church and said that their feminist views made them hate the Orthodox religion.

Tolokonnikova laughed out loud when the judge read the testimony of a psychologist who said that her ?active stance on social issues? was an anomaly.

The three women remained calm and kept smiling after the judge announced the sentence. Someone in the courtroom shouted ?Shame!? They waved at relatives from behind the glass.

The charges carried a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, though prosecutors had asked for a three-year sentence.

Popular Russian author Boris Akunin, a supporter of Pussy Riot who was outside the courthouse, said Putin ?has doomed himself to another year and a half of international shame and humiliation.?

?The whole thing is bad because it?s yet another step toward the escalation of tensions within society. And the government is absolutely to blame,? he said.

Defense lawyers said they would appeal but had little hope that the verdict would be overturned. ?This verdict is the result of a political decision in the Kremlin, made by Vladimir Putin,? said Mark Feygin.

He said the women would not ask for a pardon from Putin. ?They will not beg and humiliate themselves before such a bastard,? he said.

Another sign of the defendants? resolve came in a new song the band released Friday on the Internet: ?Putin Is Lighting the Fires of Revolution.?

Samutsevich?s father said he had met with his daughter before the court session and she was prepared for a prison sentence. ?We tried to comfort her,? said Stanislav Samutsevich.

Amnesty International, which has called the women prisoners of conscience, said the court ruling ?shows that the Russian authorities will stop at no end to suppress dissent and stifle civil society.?

Governments including the United States, Britain, France and Germany denounced the sentences as disproportionate.

President Barack Obama was disappointed by the decision, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. ?While we understand the group?s behavior was offensive to some, we have serious concerns about the way that these young women have been treated by the Russian judicial system,? he said.

Further controversy was stirred up by the detention of Kasparov, now one of Putin?s fiercest critics. He said he was beaten by the police who detained him, but police claimed that he bit an officer?s finger. After his release, Kasparov tweeted that he was going to an emergency room ?to check my injuries and to prove that I am not drunk and haven?t bitten anyone.?

The Pussy Riot case has helped energize the opposition. Protest leader Alexei Navalny called the verdict a ?cynical mockery of justice? and said the opposition would step up its protests.

Even some Kremlin loyalists strongly criticized the verdict. Former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said it has dealt ?yet another blow to the court system and citizens? trust in it.?

Mikhail Fedotov, the head of a presidential advisory council on human rights, voiced hope that the sentence will be repealed or at least softened. Mikhail Barshchevsky, a lawyer who represents the Cabinet in high courts, said that the verdict had no basis in Russian criminal law.

The Pussy Riot case has underlined the vast influence of the Russian Orthodox Church. Although church and state are formally separate, the church identifies itself as the heart of Russian national identity and critics say its strength effectively makes it a quasi-state entity. Some Orthodox groups and many believers had urged strong punishment for what they consider blasphemy.

The head of the church, Patriarch Kirill, has made no secret of his strong support for Putin, praising his leadership as ?God?s miracle,? and he described the punk performance as part of an assault by ?enemy forces? on the church.

My husband and I have been married for a little over three years. We went through a rough patch that started about six months into our marriage and ended almost two years ago. It was a combination of not understanding each other as much as we thought and not knowing how to meet each other's needs. What really made things worse was my depression and anxiety. I had thought I had overcome it because for almost two years I had been going great and had even been able to come off of my medication. When things started getting bad between us and especially after his father sent me a hurtful Facebook message my depression and anxiety came into play in a big way. We got into marriage counseling and I started taking an anti-anxiety medication that's done wonders.

So here we are a year and a half after our rough patch ended and my husband said he's considering divorce because he can't move past the pain. He says that even though he's forgiven me for it (though he says he hasn't forgotten) and that things are 10 times better and even though I've done everything he's asked me to with regards to my depression and anxiety, apologized for it and expressed my regret multiple times and have pursued counseling on my own it's still not enough for him and he still can't move past it. Also even though he wants children badly he refuses to have them with me because he says he doesn't want me to put them through what I put him through. He feels he's never going to be comfortable having children with me no matter how much better either of us gets. Since having children is one of his long-time dreams he feels the only way he can have them is if he divorces me and finds someone else to have children with.

I feel that we can work through the marital and individual issues and rebuild and restore our marriage but he's almost at the point of giving up. He says the only things holding him back right now is his reluctance to hurt me and his history of ending relationships in the past only to regret it.

I don't know what to do. I've been as loving and supportive as I can. For the past year and a half I've made sure I've been on the medication. In that time we've only have two incidents where things got kind of bad. I've pursued therapy on my own and in the past two years, especially the past year, I've made huge strides. Since I've struggled with fear myself I've tried to encourage him to not let his fear get the better of him and to keep fighting. Please! I need advice. I don't want to lose my husband and best friend.

Raleigh Little Theatre will kick off its new five-show Sutton Series with The Rocky Horror Show, an outrageously campy and over-the-top PG-13 rated 1973 cult musical with songs and script by Richard O?Brien. The 76-year-old community theater will perform this uproarious rock-and-roll musical in its Cantey V. Sutton Main Stage Theatre on Aug. 17-19 and 23-26 and Aug. 30-Sept. 2, with a special midnight performance on Friday, August 24th.

The Rocky Horror Show is a mash-up of a cheesy 1960s horror movie and a low-budget 1960s sci-fi film. It commences when a na?ve and innocent couple of young squares? car breaks down, and they seek shelter in a nearby castle inhabited by oversexed gender-bending aliens in full party mode.

?I have never seen The Rocky Horror Show onstage; I have only seen the [1975] movie, which is called The Rocky Horror Picture Show,? confesses RLT artistic director Haskell Fitz-Simons, who has directed 171 productions during his 30 years at Raleigh Little Theatre.

He adds, ?The Rocky Horror Show is strongly about human sexuality, but in a fun way. It?s probably no more frank than a Feydeau comedy, but it is clothed differently?. You might call it a rock-and-roll sex farce.?

?We?ve been talking about doing The Rocky Horror Show for years,? Fitz-Simmons reveals, ?but there were various and sundry ramifications ?. I still feel that it is not to everybody?s taste. For example, the blue hairs may object to it; but I am a blue hair now ? metaphorically speaking ? and I love it! And we have also been searching for something that might bring some new blood into the theater.?

?The Rocky Horror Show is a great plastic icon,? says Haskell Fitz-Simons. ?It?s almost anti-matter. But it?s very theatrical. It set out to break all the molds, and does so without offending too many people. I don?t guess there will be too many people running screaming into the night [at the final curtain]. We have done rougher stuff here.?

The Rocky Horror Show premiered on June 19, 1973 in the 60-seat Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in London, later transferred to the Chelsea Classic Cinema and other locations, and racked up 2,960 performances in London by 1980. The musical made its Broadway debut, directed by Jim Sharman, on March 10, 1975 at the Belasco Theatre, where it played for 45 performances before closing on April 5, 1975.

The show?s original Broadway production starred Tim Curry as mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter; Bill Miller as hero Brad Majors; Abigale Haness as heroine Janet Weiss; rock star Meat Loaf as both the ex-delivery boy Eddie and Dr. Frank-N-Furter?s rival scientist Dr. Everett V. Scott; and composer, lyricist, and librettist Richard O?Brien as handyman Riff Raff.

There was a much longer-lived 2000-02 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tom Hewitt as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, which ran for 437 performances and received five 2001 Tony Award? nominations, plus five 2001 Drama Desk Award nominations, including the Tony and Drama Desk Award awards for best revival of a musical.

The 1975 British motion-picture adaptation of the London and New York musical, rechristened as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and directed by Jim Sharman from a screenplay by Sharman and Richard O?Brien, starred Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Barry Bostwick as Brad Majors, Susan Sarandon as Janet Weiss, Meat Loaf as Eddie, Jonathan Adams as Dr. Scott, and Richard O?Brien as Riff Raff.

Since its release nearly 40 years ago, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has became a wildly popular cult movie, which still is screened at midnight every Friday night at The Rialto Theatre in Raleigh (for details, see http://www.lickitlips.com/). Raleigh Little Theatre?s cast for The Rocky Horror Show includes James Ilsley as Dr. Frank ?N? Furter, Kaine Riggan as Brad Majors, Sarah Winter as Janet Weiss, David Adams as Eddie/Dr. Scott, and Brent Wilson as Riff Raff. The no-holds-barred rock musical also stars Evelyn McCauley as the show?s Narrator, Sandi Sullivan as Magenta, Ann Davis as Columbia, and Brian Fisher as Rocky. The Phantoms who haunt the castle include Brett Yates, Debbie Tullos, Lauren Hussey, Rose Higgins, Thad Bell, and Tyanna West.

?One of the big challenges of staging The Rocky Horror Show is finding an actor who has the power to lay Frank ?N? Furter ? the Tim Curry role ? without being absolutely slavish to the film,? claims director Haskell Fitz-Simons. ?We were very fortunate to have James Ilsley audition for us. He?s making a perfectly delicious, delightful, scary Frank ?N? Furter ? which is all the things that Frank ?N? Furter should be.?

Fitz-Simons adds, ?The script is very light on story arc and character development. That has given us a great deal of freedom to create our own. We don?t have to act like Tim Curry or look just like the film, although I don?t think anyone will be disappointed in what we have achieved?.

?It?s been a good challenge to take the script and make it unique to Raleigh Little Theatre,? says Haskell Fitz-Simons. ?I think we?ve been super-successful at that, everybody?s had a good time, and we all have high hopes [for the production's success].?

Fitz-Simmons says The Rocky Horror Show comes with music books ? but not arrangements ? from Samuel French, Inc., so Raleigh Little Theatre was able to tailor the score to showcase the strengths of its cast members.

He adds, ?Rehearsals have been a lot of fun. It?s been an interesting journey; and I mean that in a good way, not in a bad way.?

When the curtain rises on The Rocky Horror Show, reports Haskell Fitz-Simons, ?It is a dark and story night and a young couple [played by Kaine Riggan and Sarah Winter] is having car trouble. They get taken to a dark and scary castle, where the inhabitants just happen to be from another planet.

?[The aliens] are, to say the least, a little predatory in a sexual sense. In the end, Brad and Janet find out things about themselves that they never would have imagined, and the castle ? which is really a spaceship ? blasts off to return to Transsexual Transylvania, from which it came,? says Fitz-Simons.

In addition to director Haskell Fitz-Simons, the Raleigh Little Theatre creative team for The Rocky Horror Show includes assistant director Adrienne Dyson, choreographer Nancy Rich, musical director Scott R. McKenzie, technical director Todd Aberts, set and lighting designer and properties manager Thomas Mauney, costume designer Jenny Mitchell, sound designer Todd Houseknecht, and stage manager Tim Locklear.

?The Rocky Horror Show has a unit set,? notes director Haskell Fitz-Simons. Our metaphor was the interior of a warehouse, made over for a rave. It?s very techno-industrial. There?s a lot of brick, a lot of steel.?

He adds, ?The lights are ? for want of a better term ? rock-and-roll lights, with a lot of color ? that makes everyone just beautiful.?

Fitz-Simons says, ?The Earth story takes place in the mid-1960s, so Brad and Janet are wearing conventional Sixties dress when they enter the castle, whose inhabitants wear a lot of leather, a lot of lace, a lot of heavy makeup, and some fetish items, such as high-heeled boots and shoes.?

The Transsexual Transylvanians have a Glam-Rock look, Fitz-Simons says, ?like David Bowie on steroids?,

?As we put in the audition notice,? declares director Haskell Fitz-Simons, ?this may not be a show that your grandmother would enjoy, unless you have a very cool grandmother. There?s a lot of sexual content, although the language is not rough. The Rocky Horror Show is really a PG-13 rated musical.?

Besides The Rocky Horror Show, the Sutton Series also includes The 39 Steps (Oct. 12-14, 18-21, and 25-28), a 2005 melodrama adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 movie by Alfred Hitchcock; Bus Stop (Feb. 1-3, 7-10, and 14-17), a 1955 comedy-drama by William Inge; The Importance of Being Earnest (April 12-14, 18-21, and 25-28), an 1895 comedy of manners by Oscar Wilde; and Once on This Island (June 7-9, 13-16, and 20-23), a 1990 Broadway musical with music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics and book by Lynn Ahrens, based on Rosa Guy?s 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl.
