Cyprus Institute Solar Car Challenge 2011 ... - Travel and Leisure

Cyprus plays host to the Cyprus Institute Solar Challenge. The event takes place in Geroskipou near Pathos. The challenge invites local and international teams to construct and race a solar powered vehicle. This year?s challenge takes place on the 19th of June. To make the race even more exciting, this year the races will take part on the roads of Geroskipou instead of on a dedicated race track.

During the competition the Cyprus Institute will aid and advise teams on design advantages and development in this fun practice of friendly competitive research. Many of the teams taking part in the challenge are groups of children from throughout Cyprus. They are competing against some international teams that will be enjoying a fun filled Cyprus holiday with a twist.

All of the vehicles will be powered by just the sun and it is always fun to see the many creative avenues taken in team?s designs. There are safety rules in place to ensure all of the vehicles can stop safely and not pose a risk to passengers & spectators. So if you like science mixed with motor sports why not head over to Cyprus in June. If you have the resources you could even buy timeshare and enter yourself!
